要知道，有些事实真相是永远不可能被偷偷地埋藏起来的……也许是为了彻底地逃离自己那千篇一律的无爱婚姻吧，雷蒙德·耶鲁（大卫·罗伯茨饰）越来越深陷与美丽但麻烦缠身的卡拉（克莱尔·范德布姆饰）的婚外情中无法自拔。然而，当卡拉把她那控制欲极强的丈夫最近一次犯罪收获的所有现金全部偷出来的时候，雷蒙德的道德底线也受到了终极的考验——他将此当成了上天给他们的一次机会，让他们拿着钱然后远走高飞。不过事情远不像雷蒙德想象的那么简单，随着贪念的种子生根发芽，他其实更害怕的是失去自己所爱的人，所以他策划了一个计谋，想要掩盖住这一切。
可是当雷蒙德决定雇佣专业的纵火犯比利（乔尔·艾德顿饰）时，也意味着他犯下了一个致命的错误，所有的计划都开始向着无法控制且不可预知的方向发展……随着火警声刺耳地响起，质疑的情绪也在不断地攀升当中，但让人颇感不可思议的是，他们似乎真地瞒过了所有人，毕竟没有人知道是他们安排并设计了这起火灾。
